Unleashed, 2005
Unleashed (also known as Danny the Dog) is a 2005 French-British-American action film directed by Louis
Leterrier and written by Luc Besson. Jet Li stars as Danny, a man who has been raised from childhood by violent
loan shark Bart (Bob Hoskins) to behave like a dog and serve as his personal enforcer. With a metal collar around
his neck, Danny remains passive and obedient; once removed, he becomes a highly skilled and relentless fighter.
After Bart is injured in a violent ambush, Danny escapes and is taken in by a blind piano tuner named Sam
(Morgan Freeman) and his stepdaughter Victoria (Kerry Condon). They care for him and help him experience life
beyond violence, teaching him how to live as a normal person. Danny gradually recovers fragments of his past
and learns the truth about his mother, a pianist who was killed by Bart years earlier.
Bart eventually reclaims Danny and forces him back into underground deathmatches. During these scenes, Scott
Adkins appears in a small role as the Swimming Pool Fighter. The film’s action was choreographed by Yuen Woo-
ping.
Unleashed was filmed in Glasgow, Scotland, and Jet Li also served as executive producer.
