Karmouz War. 2018

In Karmouz War Scott Adkins actually only plays an extended role at the end of this Egyptian historical action film directed by Peter Mimi. However, advertisers have prominently featured his name and image on promotional materials and posters, giving the impression that Adkins is the star of the movie. Be aware that his role is minor to avoid disappointment. Many viewers may not be familiar with the historical period in Egypt when the country was under British occupation before the revolution. The film is set in the Karmouz district of Alexandria, where the British ruled the population with an iron fist. The story revolves around three British soldiers attacking an innocent Egyptian girl. When three young men come to her aid, an incident occurs, resulting in the death of an Egyptian man and the arrest of the soldiers. Unfortunately, one of these soldiers turns out to be the nephew of the British military governor in the region, who is determined to secure his release at all costs. One of the lead roles is played by Egyptian actor Amir Karara, portraying General Youssef al-Masri. He oversees the prison in the area and refuses to release the British soldier, leading to a confrontation between the British and Egyptian armies. This conflict ultimately escalates into an all-out war. Scott Adkins' character has almost no backstory. He is simply called "The Crazy One," and the only thing we know about him is that he is a British soldier imprisoned for misconduct. Most of the film consists of heavy dialogue with occasional tense moments to build drama. The real action, however, doesn’t come until the film’s climax, when Adkins takes on a more prominent role. Before that, he only appears once in the first half of the movie.

The Trailer:
The film’s ending with Adkins is, unsurprisingly, the best part of the movie. The British release "The Madman" to eliminate the Egyptian soldiers and civilians who are rebelling. Adkins is given the freedom to unleash his deadly moves, delivering a barrage of furious kicks and showcasing his signature techniques. He takes down numerous Egyptians with his fists, feet, and firearms. The climactic showdown between Karara and Adkins is satisfying, even though Adkins is clearly the superior fighter. The fight highlights Adkins' impressive array of techniques, while Karara manages to display some remarkable physical prowess as well. But let’s be honest: everyone came to see Scott Adkins.
The film would have been better if Adkins had been given a larger role in the story, which would have added more dramatic weight to the ending. Instead, he is simply a crazed, brutal soldier who shows up to beat people down. Karara does his best with the material he’s given, but ultimately, this film is for Scott Adkins fans who jump at any opportunity to see him in action. When he does deliver, it’s impressive. But as noted, this only happens during the movie’s conclusion.
