Hard Target 2, 2016

Hard Target 2 is a 2016 film form director Roel Reiné with Scott Adkins in the lead. Disgraced and retired mixed martial artist Wes "The Jailor" Baylor (Scott Adkins) couldn't refuse the million dollar purse offered to fight in Myanmar. When he arrives to fight, he learns he's been tricked into becoming the target of a human hunt. Carrying only water and a ruby-filled money belt for the last person standing, Wes must outsmart the heavily armed group who's paid to kill him. As Wes fights for his life in the treacherous jungle terrain, the hunters become the hunted.
The original Hard Target film from 1993 was an action film directed by John Woo, features Jean- Claude Van Damme in a gripping tale of survival and revenge. Set in New Orleans, the movie follows Chance Boudreaux (Van Damme), a merchant seaman who aids Natasha Binder (Yancy Butler) in her search for her missing father. The plot thickens as they stumble upon a deadly game where the rich hunt the poor for sport. One of the film’s most memorable scenes Van Damme punches a rattlesnake in the face. Then he cunningly bites the rattlesnake’s rattle off to silence it, turning the predator into a silent weapon against his pursuers. This scene is a testament to Van Damme’s character’s resourcefulness and the film’s ability to blend action with suspense. Critics have noted “Hard Target” for its intense action sequences and Woo’s flair for dramatic, stylized violence. While the film adheres to action genre conventions, it’s elevated by Van Damme’s physicality and the unique blend of martial arts and gunplay. “Hard Target” remains a standout in Van Damme’s career. And we love Van Damme’s hair style!!

The Trailer
Hard Target 2 is not perse a sequel to the first Hard Target film with Jean-Claude Van Damme. The similarity of both films is the “Human Hunting” theme of the film. Both films revolve around the concept of human hunting, where the protagonist is prey in a deadly game orchestrated by wealthy people. ‘Hard Target 2’ director Roel Reiné is a fan of John Woo, who directed the original ‘Hard Target’. Reiné included several homages to Woo’s style, such as the opening scene and the signature John Woo doves. For the rest, Hard Target 2 is primarily a standalone film, with lots of action, that is enjoyable to watch, but hey, how could it be otherwise with Scott Adkins in the leading role."
Adkins accidentally kills his best friend in the ring. Filled with depression, he accidentally signs up to be hunted in Indonesia by a group of rich bastards…..
Roel Reine, the director of Hard Target 2 told that the movie was shot in around 20 days. The budget was 4 million USD, and the movie was shot all over Thailand. Mainly in the north around Chiang Mai and in and around Bangkok. In the south of Bangkok all the jungles were shot in around the 2 and a half weeks. In the city Bangkok the Thai city scenes, the fights, and the opening where shot. About Scott he said that he is just an incredible actor and fighter. Scott designed the whole opening fight sequence in the arena. “He was a real trooper, of course for me I am running around with the camera it is tough, but for him it is even harder because he has to do every thing and the acting and the fighting as well. Scott is is just an incredible person to work with.”
Incoming head-kick
In an interview with Cityofire.com Scott Adkins told about “replacing” Van Damme in Hard Target 2 . Scott: “You know, when I was initially offered it, I said, no I can’t do this again. People will think that I am actively pursuing Van Damme films or they might think that I am some twisted super fan of Van Damme that when I was a kid I made it my life’s work to become an action star just so I could make sequels to Van Damme movies. But no, that’s not the case. When they offered it to me, I said should I do this? I’ve already done so much linked to Van Damme. But the truth is I was such a huge fan of Van Damme growing up and he was such a huge influence on me that actually in my mind, and only I can know how this feels, it just felt right. I feel like if anyone’s gonna do it, why not me because I was so influenced by Van Damme as a kid that if anyone’s gonna do it, and when you see the film and you see what type of character I play and what the story is, you’ll realize that actually there’s no one better suited for this part than me. And people keep comparing me to Van Damme and I’ve worked with him a couple times before, and it’s coincidental really, but I don’t know, if you wanna get somebody for the sequel, who else are you gonna get?”
